Performance Data Notice

Notification of Provision of USMLE Performance Data to Medical Schools

Intealth may provide medical schools (for students, the school at which the individual is enrolled at the time USMLE exam results become available, or for graduates, the school from which the individual graduated) with performance data on administrations of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. Such data is provided on examinees individually (“Individual Performance Data”) and in the aggregate (“Aggregate Performance Data Reports”). The following notice outlines Intealth’s practices regarding the provision of these data to international medical schools and the process by which examinees can request to have their Individual Performance Data withheld from their medical school.

Intealth requires medical schools to sign a Performance Information Agreement, which restricts use of performance data only for appropriate academic purposes (such as program evaluation, admission criteria refinement, faculty development and other internal matters) and for the preparation of required reports to governmental agencies. The performance data may not be used or referred to in advertising, recruitment (faculty, students, or staff) or other promotional materials and may not be published or made available through electronic or other media other than for the permitted purposes referred to above.

Individual Performance Data

  • If the medical school participates in the Performance Data service through MyIntealth, the Individual Performance Data will be provided to the medical school electronically through MyIntealth and will be available to the medical school for 365 days after the score report becomes available.
  • Individual Performance Data provided to the medical school may include: examinee name; examinee USMLE Identification Number; examinee MyIntealth Identification Number; examinee unique medical school identification number, if applicable; the examination taken; the date on which the individual took the examination; whether the examinee passed or failed the examination; and, for Step 1 and Step 2 CK, the numerical score, if one was reported for the exam administration. If the exam result is classified as indeterminate and/or if there was a finding of irregular behavior for the exam administration, these will be noted.
  • Only results of exam administrations with a pass/fail result or that are classified as indeterminate will be made available to the medical school. If the score is incomplete or withheld by Intealth or the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), or if the individual does not take the examination, no information will be made available.
  • Examinees have the opportunity to have their Individual Performance Data withheld from their medical school. Once examinees are registered for examination, they will see an option to withhold their results from their medical school on the Exam Results tab in the Certification section of MyIntealth.

Aggregate Performance Data Reports

  • Aggregate Performance Data Reports, including pass rates by examination, may be made available to eligible medical schools that require this information in order to meet requirements of the U.S. Department of Education (DoE).
  • A minimum of five examinees who meet reporting requirements is required for number/percentage passing to be reported. If a medical school does not have five examinees who meet the reporting requirements, an Aggregate Performance Data Report will be generated, but the data will be withheld.
  • If a school does not have the minimum number of examinees who meet the reporting requirements for a given year, a three-year look-back may be provided.
  • Aggregate Performance Data Reports do not include individually identifiable data.
  • If examinees request to have their Individual Performance Data withheld from their medical school, it will not be excluded from their school's Aggregate Performance Data Report.

Withholding Examination Results from a Medical School

  • Once examinees are registered for examination, they will see an option to have their Individual Performance Data withheld from their medical school on the Exam Results tab in the Certification section of MyIntealth.
  • A request to withhold Individual Performance Data must be submitted at least 10 days before the scheduled test date. If examinees do not have a scheduled test date, this request must be submitted at least 10 days before the end of their eligibility period.
  • A request to withhold Individual Performance Data is valid for one exam administration only. Examinees must submit a separate request for each exam administration for which they want the results withheld from their medical school.
  • If examinees make this request and their medical school is eligible to receive Individual Performance Data, the information provided to the medical school for that exam administration may include examinee name, USMLE Identification Number; MyIntealth Identification Number, the examination taken, and a notation that the exam results have been withheld at their request.
  • If examinees submit a request to withhold Individual Performance Data, they will not be able to reverse that decision. If examinees want their score for that exam administration reported to their medical school subsequently, they must request and pay for an official USMLE transcript.
